operational risk... One
major concern of customers today is to ensure that their collaborators are working
on core business activities, which is challenged when users' machines are infected
by a virus or operations are disrupted by attempts to install non-official applications:
downloads or the use of I/O devices such as the CDROM drive or USB memory sticks
to install programs. In the above cases,
both user and support staff time is lost. The user might not be able to perform
his or her daily work (jeopardising the company activity: no email, no remote
access, no credit card transactions, no more inventory management, etc.) while
the support staff will spend time stabilising the computer's (maybe even the network's)
environment to restore normal operations. In worst cases, companies are obliged
to shut down all IT activity in order to stop a virus from spreading around, having
major consequences on the organisation's activity. When
installed, Sanctuary solutions reduce the management cost of a network by up to
60%, increase the stability and availability of critical business applications
and reduce instances of support intervention on both desktops/laptops and servers. Find
out how Sanctuary can reduce your operational risk by calling Integrated Solutions

the places bar
When you save or open a file in
an application that uses Windows XP's common dialog box, chances are that you
use the Places bar on the left side of the dialog box to speed up your navigation.

By
default, the Places bar contains the following five locations: * My Recent
Documents * Desktop * My Documents * My Computer * My Network
Places While these locations are generally
helpful, you may want to customize this list with your own folders/locations.
To do so, you simply edit the local group
policy with the Group Policy Editor. Follow these steps to learn how: 1.
Launch the Group Policy Editor (Start | Run | Gpedit.msc) 2. Go to User Configuration
| Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Windows Explorer | Common Open
File Dialog. 3. Double-click the Items Displayed In Places Bar setting.
4. In the resulting dialog box, select the Enabled option. 5. Type the paths
to your custom folder locations in the Item 1-5 text boxes and click OK. Keep
in mind that once you enable this setting, you must manually specify all five
locations. If you want to keep some of the
default locations or specify other common locations, in addition to your custom
items, you must use one of the following special shortcuts:
| * CommonDocuments | *
CommonMusic | | * CommonPictures | *
Desktop | | * MyComputer | *
MyDocuments | | * MyFavorites | *
MyMusic | | * MyNetworkPlaces | *
MyPictures | | * Printers | *

Data
loss due to disasters happens every single month in Cairns? In
the wake of major disasters, such as the Asian Tsunami, SARS, 9/11, and the looming
threat of additional potential terrorist attacks, the message is still not hitting
home... | |
| What
is a Disaster? | |
When
thinking of a disaster most people immediately think of fire, flooding and earthquakes
but a disaster can be any situation that unexpectedly interrupts service or corrupts
data in an entire data centre. It can be any event that completely severs a network
connection and even an act of sabotage. | |
| how
vulnerable is your computer system to a disaster? Data
loss can and will occur in several ways. Some examples seen in Cairns are:
- An
organisation falsely believed their data was being backed up.
-
An organisation where maintenance to server equipment caused critical services
to fail (accounting application & email). 100+ users were affected for up
to a week.
-
A small company where an employee saved company wide data to their local hard
disk. The workstation failed and that data was unretrievable.
-
The disgruntled employee who was asked to leave the company and subsequently attempted
to sabotage the computer system.
-
Fire resulting in building and computer damage. The insurance claim replaced the
building and equipment...but the business never recovered from the data loss.
